The Swords Coast is a turbulent region with a complex history. Once a part of Tel-Quessir, the great elven empire; elven influences on the region are still felt over 1000 years later. Currently the Swords Coast is in political flux, with the 12 nations and city states in the process of either unifying or preparing for war. Two different factions, one lead by Lord Piergieron or Waterdeep, and another lead by the Elves of Silverymoon are claiming the region as their own empire, while other areas like Icewind Dale are staying fiercely independent.
Icewind Dale - The northernmost country of Swords Coast, famous for it's extreme cold and as a retreat for the dwarven arcane expert Master Drogan. It is fiercely independent and suspicious of outsiders, and actively refuses to pledge allegiance to the Lord's Alliance.
The Kingdom Of Many Arrows - A recently formed nation and the first Orc nation to be founded. It was originally land on the outer edges of Icewind Dale and the Silver Marches that was annexed by the Orcish King, Obould, who is in negotiations with Waterdeep to become the first full blooded Orc to stand as a member of the Lord's Alliance.
The Silver Marches - A union of independent cities that agree to work as a co-operative under the Lord's Alliance, Silverymoon is considered it's defacto capitol however recent tensions have sparked infighting amongst the cities, spurred on especially by the Orchish encroachment on their boarders.
Neverwinter - Officially a large city state, but with much local influence. As a fierce supporter of the Lord's Alliance, when the faction was refused representation in Icewind Dale there was a protracted war between Neverwinter and the Dale that only ended recently. The city contains the largest temple to Tyr in the world.
Dessarin Valley - Known as the Bread Basket of the North, the Valley is a collection of farms, villages, and small peasantry towns united under the lord of Yartar who represent's them within the Lord's Alliance. The Valley is generally divided with strong loyalty to the Alliance but concerns over the people of the north.
The High Forest - The most sparsely populated area of the Swords Coast, the High Forest is left as a reserve to protect the elven ruins of Tel-Quessir. With only a few small towns along the river in the south, it has no true representation in the Lord's Alliance.
Waterdeep - The largest city in Faerun, Waterdeep is the home of the Lord's Alliance in Faerun, and is run by a council of elders many of which serve both Waterdeep and the Alliance; as such many consider the city the capitol of the Swords Coast.
Delimbiyr Vale - A rich region that acts as the main ally to Waterdeep in diplomatic actions. It has a lot of influence in Lord's Alliance dealings. It's capitol city is Daggerford which has grown large as it's on the main road to Waterdeep.
Nentir Vale - Until recently this region was unsettled moorland, but recent events has made it extremely fertile. The lords of Winterhaven and Fallcrest are both represented in the Lord's Alliance, and the region is well known for being particularly fearful of outsiders. Fey creatures, tieflings, and half-orcs are not permitted to take up residence in the region.
Evereska - An elven city state on the boarder with the Anauroch Desert, it's inhabited by an elven order who pledge to protect the region. They openly support the re-founding of Tel-Quessir and consider the entirety of the Swords Coast to be an elven empire under occupation.
Baldur's Gate - An independent city state represented in the Lord's Alliance, this city has become the fastest growing city in the region as it is the go-to trade post for far flung merchants from outside of Faerun. Generally uninterested in the politics of the north.
Eltugard - A shrinking nation, largely due to people moving to Baldur's Gate. It's capitol is Elturel, and it's nobles are well known for being particularly kind and compassionate. One locale of note is Candlekeep, the largest library known to exist and the biggest repository of magical texts in Faerun.
